Papua LNG is a liquefied natural gas (LNG) production project led by TotalEnergies in response to Papua New Guinea's desire to develop its gas resources.

Gas resources in PNG have been estimated at over 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent. The Project will have a projected LNG export volume of 5.6 million tonnes per year.

The decision to develop Papua LNG has been taken by Papua New Guinea Government to continue developing the infrastructures that will meet the needs of its growing population.

As the operator of the project along with its international partners ExxonMobil, Santos and Eneos Xplora, TotalEnergies is dedicated to making Papua LNG landmark project in terms of sustainable development, limiting GHG and methane emissions, providing significant social and economic impact to the communities, and making a net positive contribution to biodiversity in country.

To that end, the Papua LNG project aligns with the highest international standards, such as the International Finance Corporation's (IFC) Performance Standards or the Ecuador Principles.

Moreover, the Project is committed to delivering tangible benefits to the local communities. This includes creating job opportunities, supporting local businesses, and investing in community development programs such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. By fostering strong partnerships with local stakeholders, the Papua LNG project ensures that the benefits of the project are shared widely, contributing to the overall wellbeing and prosperity of the communities involved.

While progressing on the way to the Final Investment Decision, we continue our health support to the communities, reinforce the network of basic infrastructure (water tanks, communication tower, community houses), provide new classroom and educational support over the Project Area of Influence (PAoI). In the meantime, additional environmental studies and actions regarding biodiversity are also conducted, demonstrating Project's ongoing efforts to preserve the natural environment.

Papua LNG is a liquefied natural gas (LNG) production project led by TotalEnergies in response to Papua New Guinea's desire to develop its gas resources. The gas resources have been estimated at over 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent. The Project will have an LNG export volume of 5.6 million tonnes per year (Mt/y).

Papua LNG project will consist of 9 production wells, 1 water injection well, 1 CO2 reinjection well and a gas processing plant, 320 km of pipeline (out of which 60 km are onshore) from the processing plant to the liquefaction plant, located in Caution Bay, close to Port Moresby.

Papua LNG partners have selected a concept using 3 electrical LNG trains with a cumulative capacity of 4 Mt/y, to be developed within the existing liquefaction plant in Caution Bay, in which it has secured up to 2 Mt/y additional capacity.

The Project opted for 3 innovative electric liquefaction trains, a more modular solution that will reduce the Project's carbon footprint when combined with renewable energy.

Another special feature is that a system for storing so-called "native" CO2, i.e. CO2 produced with natural gas, was designed to be operational on the first day of operation. The CO2 will be separated and reinjected into one of the two reservoirs to reduce the GHG emissions by circa 1 Mt/y.

By selecting e-trains and re-injecting the native CO2 produced into the reservoirs, Papua LNG confirms its commitment to the reduction of the carbon intensity of the Project.
